Free People | Roshambo

So, because the Universe, in all her wisdom, loves to mock me; the Free People February 2013 Look Book arrived on my doorstep the other day. And yes, I may have spent an inordinate amount of time fawning over all the lovely, bohemian temptations that little pamphlet had to torture me with. But I made enough time in my busy, busy day to track down this lovely video that was produced in conjunction with said look book.

This short film follows the whirlwind romance of two star-crossed lovers, whose chance encounter on a Brooklyn street corner leads to a night of bohemienne escapades throughout the cities Burroughs, romantical adventures, and many, many outfit changes. Starring well known attractive people, Christopher Abbott of HBO's 'Girls' and model/actress Sheila Marquez. It's set to Lord Huron's "The Ghost on the Shore," and everything about it makes me want to shack up with the next scruffily handsome musician I meet.

Which actually isn't all that unusual of a desire for me

Now, I can't afford anything in Free People's collection, but I love using their look books as inspiration for my thrifting hit list. Everything they make is all so timelessly boho, that their looks are easy to reproduce in a thrift store if you keep your eyes peeled for the right pieces. As always, Free People's pallet of ethereal lace, tattered and worn denim, and warm, neutral colors are all totally thrift-able. It wasn't that long ago that our parents were rocking the Navajo print gear, too. Goodwill remembers even if we fickle fashionistas don't. So save your cash and raid yo mom as closet or the nearest consignment shop. Trust me, there's gold in them thar hills.

Brain Clutter

So this should be my new weekley (...?) post on the internet knick-knackery that is catching my eye lately. I am a bit of a horder, so I'm hoping this new method of collecting will prevent me from purchasing any more tiny bronze animal figurines or vintage pencil skirts...but I doubt it.

Shall we begin?

Good Books: Metamorphosis

this gonzo-esque, acid trip down psychedelia lane is the byproduct of a collaboration with Buck--a design-driven production company with offices in New York and Los Angeles--and Good Books, an online bookseller that passes all of it's profit on to Oxfam. Gotta appreciate great great campaigns for good causes, no?

Enjoy, and then go read a book...or buy one.

The Works of Nicola Odemann

I originally chanced upon Miss Odemann's work on over on Miss Moss and felt my heart instantly yearning for great open spaces and limitless horizons. Born in 1992, it seems as though Nicola has seen most of the world already, and her work features some of the most heart-stopping landscapes I've ever seen. Her shots seem candid and casual, which I suppose is part of their appeal for me. I love that they seem so unstructured, much like the wilderness they capture.

I dare you to go to her portfolio and not get lost.

And OMG guys. There exhists in the world today a musical thats been composed out of that handbook for every 90s girl fantasy life. Teen Witch. I wasn't in LA to catch the Groundlings performance, but I'm sure it was awesome. In case you doubt me, exhibit A:

Lust List: Elizabeth Lecourt's Les robes géographiques

So I realize these have been floating around the internetz for god knows how long, but I recently stumbled upon them again over at StyleBubble and couldn't resist re-blogging a few of my favorites from the collection to share with you here.

Elizabeth Lecourt lives and works in London, and her works span much more than beautifully architectural sun-dresses crafted from vintage maps. Though these are the only objects she's produced that I would wear. Like, every day. Maybe even to bed. Though I'm not sure how these would stand up  to my sleep gymnastics.

Alas, these works of art are unwearable, so there shall be no frolicking through fields in these lovely numbers for me. But someday, perhaps, if I play my cards right; I can hang one of these beauties on my wall. Ah, fantasies...

this last one is by far my favorite, the colors are amazing.
so much cartographic goodness.

lustfully,
-Lola

like noises in the night, she is often not what she seems

a few more from my shoot with the talented Gillian. I love these shots so much, the contrast of the vines against the structured lines of the shirt and the craziness of the brocade pants is awesome. I came out of this with a great deal of foliage in my hair, but so worth it.

{denim jacket | wasteland} {brocade jeans/bodice/jewelry | Gillian's}

After the shoot I went and met up with one of my best friends from high school, who was in town for the weekend from Santa Barbra. My roommate's BFF was in town too, so we all decided to go out and get a little crazy over the weekend...and then this happened.

To summarize: love fests, giggle fits, tribal dancing, dashing bald men, hitch hiking, private cars, crowded clubs, chain smoking, extreme car-dancing, too much Mexican food, shopping sprees and fits of wild abandon.
All in all, a grand weekend.

used my head like a revolver

Oh, shit. It's 2013.
so much for resolution #679: quit smoking...
met up with my new friend Gillian Keller to play a bit of dress up and snap some pics in Golden Gate Park. Gillian is the whiz kid behind Trixieland Epic Photography. She's a collaborative artist of sorts, mixing her own wardrobe, ideas, and settings with those of her model to create images that speak of both who she is, and who her subjects are. I've tweaked these a bit for the blog, but check out TrixieLand for more epic photography.
{jacket | thrifted} {top | Gillian's} {leopard jeans | Gillian's} {belt | thrifted} {shoes | eh...?} {jewelry | mix Gillian's and White Buffalo}

BTW, how rad are these pants? Something about the light and the 70's rocker vibe I'm diggin off these images has put me in the mood for some T. Rex (maybe it's also the fact that my new hair cut is slightly reminescent of Marc Bolan's? No? Maybe?) and this song in particular may-or-may-not have been playing in my head as I jumped around and shook my hair like a maniac in front of all the lucky folks chilling in the meadow. Listen. It's good for your groove.

Lover to Lover :: Florence and the Machine

I love me some Florence Welch. The girl can sing. And write. And dress herself. And...I'm totally giving away my huge girl-crush, aren't I?

To hell with it. This girl is amazing. I want to have her fiery-headed, songbird babies.

No, but, this is a song off her album Ceremonials and the video, directed by Vincent Haycock, is pretty much perfect. Listen with your ears, folks. It'll twist your heart right up.
